Shri Rohit D. Sharma

Director of Kashi Kathak Kendra | Professional Kathak Guru, Choreographer, Editor & Filmmaker

From the spiritual city of Banaras (Varanasi), known as the city of temples and lights, Shri Rohit D. Sharma embarked on a journey into the mesmerizing world of Kathak at the age of 15. Drawn to the elegance and depth of this classical dance form, he began his formal training at Banaras Hindu University (BHU) under the guidance of renowned gurus such as Dr. Ranjana Shrivastava, Dr. Vidhi Nagar, Pt. Mata Prasad Mishra Ji, and Smt. Smriti Talpade.

With unwavering dedication and a natural flair for storytelling through dance, he mastered the intricate footwork, expressive gestures, and soulful narratives of Kathak. His commitment to preserving and promoting the art form led him to explore its nuances through rigorous practice, research, and performance. Over the years, he mesmerized audiences with his emotive expressions and precise movements, earning widespread recognition in the dance community.

In 2010, driven by a vision to inspire and nurture talent, he founded Kashi Kathak Kendra in Varanasi with just seven students. The academy quickly gained prominence for its commitment to excellence, welcoming students of all ages, including international learners. In 2014, he expanded his horizons by relocating to Mumbai, where he continued to promote Kathak while also exploring opportunities in choreography, acting, and filmmaking.

His contributions to the arts go beyond teaching dance. He has directed numerous stage shows such as Guru Purnima Nritya Utsav, Nrityaranjana Award, Nritya Maharathi, and Nritya Darpan Concert, fostering the Guru-Shishya relationship and celebrating the cultural essence of Kathak. His efforts to uplift economically and mentally underprivileged children through dance since 2000 have further cemented his legacy as a mentor and guide.

Through Kashi Kathak Kendra, he offers comprehensive training in pure classical Kathak, vocal music, tabla, harmonium, musical dance-drama, and theatre. The institution stands as a hub where tradition meets innovation, inspiring new generations of artists to embrace the richness of Indian classical arts.

His artistic journey also includes collaborations in dance dramas, roadshows, and short films. His ability to adapt and his love for challenges reflect his passion for achieving new heights in his field. Today, Kashi Kathak Kendra continues to thrive as a beacon of classical dance, producing artists who carry forward the timeless legacy of Kathak.

With over two decades of experience, Shri Rohit D. Sharma remains committed to his mission of enriching lives through dance and creativity, leaving an indelible mark on the cultural fabric of India and beyond.
